(Cape Carteret, NC) - The savagery of Sector 4 revealed.
PPP turned out in disco style for last weekend's Croatan Buck Fifty in coastal no' cackalacky. While OGs The Project and The Little Guy only contested the 50-mile distance, potholes, pacelines, and
panicky peddlers made for a challenging course and overall event.
Fueled by a fantastic Friday night dinner hosted by PPP supporters Boomer Insurance, Parsons and Flynn made early moves to get up with the front group before Sector 4's sludgefest. This proved to be a smart move as many folks who were - shall we say - less than familiar with off-road cycling crumpled like cheap shirts from Old Navy.
Once out of the mud and onto the sandy fire roads it was game on. Party Pace set the usual party pace to keep the group under control. Things got sorted at the turn-around point and PPP's group appeared to be just outside the top ten overall.
Wheelsucker shenanigans ensued from mile 25 - 35 until a combination of headwind, potholes, and lack of oxygen splintered PPP's group of 8 down to 4. Parsons covered a strong move by some English dude to pull away around mile 40; Flynn was left to sweep up the ashes of tortured souls languishing in the Sector 4 goodness.
Another great day for PPP on the pebbles - The Project placed 3rd for the 40+ group and The Little Guy took 3rd for 50+. There was much rejoicing, hanging around, and cheering for other local favorites before heading off to Sanford, NC for some sweet single track on Sunday.
Shout-out to our peeps at Carytown Bicycle Co. for last-minute expert repairs on Mister Tee the WarWagon. Those folks are just consistently the best in the business for the Richmond area.
